Under adjust night brightness, I have this:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Select Start Windows logo Start button, choose Settings Gear-shaped Settings icon, then select System > Display. Under Brightness and color, move the Change brightness slider to adjust the brightness.

You might not see the Change brightness slider on desktop PCs that have an external monitor. To change the brightness on an external monitor, use the buttons on it.
-------------------------------------------------------
I have neither slider nor any appropriate buttons!

But daughter is coming to my rescue----she is just looking for a white horse.........

Yes, on further research, "Night light" seems to be more to do with colour balance than brightness.

Hello, Elle!
Now, if only you had a smart phone you could have sent pictures of the screens to your daughter, to find the answer!
Have you tried Googling for an answer?
Or YouTube?
It is a lovely day here!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I have Googled......
I am now extremely well -versed in night brightness - what I don't know could be written on the back of a postage stamp!
My only problem is that my computer does not tally with the instructions!
It is still raining.......

Hello, Elle!
But, should you have to know about night brightness?
Computers are not very user friendly things.
I do not have Windows anymore, or their updates, thankfully.
I am just home from a walk.
Did not go far.

Hi, Rusty!
The rain hasn't let up here......
And I became absorbed in watching Roger play David Goffin in the ATP semi finals.......so we did not go out again for a second walk!
Unfortunately - in my eyes - Roger lost, so is now out of the Championship.
So it is a Final tomorrow between Goffin and either Jack Sock or Grigor Dimitrov (their Semi to be played later today)
I missed the end of Roger's match as my daughter rang!
We have been on the phone for a long time......
It looks as though I may have to tolerate my darkening night- time screen for quite a while, as she cannot make it over here this weekend........ and next week the plan is for us to visit there.
Ah well, I guess I can manage, as it only affects me from 10 pm onwards....
It will like "looking through a glass darkly" as Paul says in the Bible!
(although I think that is a reference to viewing the future?)

Hello, Elle!
I know little about Paul and Bibles.
But, what is the purpose of your screen going dark at a set time?
I don't see why that should be?
My screen does not do that.

Hi, Rusty!
I am not appreciating the logic of it myself, but apparently it is thought that night time screen colour/ brightness can interfere with sleep patterns.
Seemingly, after using a bright screen , one might sleep less well.....
So it is suggested that the colour of one's computer's display be made to adapt to the time of day - like sunlight during the day, and warm at night.
So during the late evening, the screen darkens so that one is not exposed to bright light before sleeping.
I cannot vouch as to the authenticity of all this, but this is what I have come up with, whilst investigating how to control this night- time darkening of the computer screen.
It is supposed to be optional...but as yet I cannot make that happen!
For the time being, I appear to be stuck with it!

Hello, Elle!
I think I understand about the light.
A pity you can not adjust it, though.
I have a screen brightness button on my keyboard.
Anything like that on yours?
Is there not a "helpline" you can contact?

Hi, Rusty!
Apparently the Fn button is the one required to adjust the brightness on a desktop, from the keyboard.
The new Dell keyboard (mine) does not have that!
I have read / looked up so many Q&As that I am fast becoming a mine of (mostly useless) information!!
However, I am gradually becoming reconciled to the idea that at least I now know what is happening and why...and to accept that I can do nothing about it for now.........
I still have a few crossword parsings to solve.......
Did you sort out your couple that were outstanding?
