Finished at last. Shame I cannot spell! I knew the answer to 8a but put eo and not oe for my entry into the grid. ixion gave me some problems but once I had the answer I could see the wordplay.

I think we can open the thread now to some hints, questioning and feedback.

Lionheart, 17a) is an uncommon word for a Gold or Tin prospector (Chambers - One who washes Detritis for Gold or Tin) the cryptic bit should be quite workable
