To syzygy , jws et al:

RE 7d;

As we say on this side of the pond -
"it's a fair cop guv!"

Next time I set a clue based on dim memories of 'A'level chemistry I'll dust off the textbooks first!

I'll answer that if I may.

It was a well crafted clue this Syzzie,

The results = Yield
One's own efforts = DIY (Do-it-yourself)-backs up YID
E = pass in exams
L = Latin

Thanks. All clear now, but E is a pass?

Over here, it's a C, maybe D.

Actually, nobody "fails" anymore. Bad for a child's self-esteem, so they graduate not knowing grammar or how to spell.
You should see the résumés(CVs).

In the US a D is the lowest passing grade. There are no Es, and everyone gets a trophy.

So if a cup were to be awarded for a D grade, would double D qualify for a booby prize?

You could only get a booby prize if everyone else did. I like the idea of the D Cup though.

Paul and aristo deserve a prize, you could go up and collect them together two abreast
