Dodgepot - have done.

makibg slow progress, about 8 clues to go. have a plausible 3 word phrase, and the clue for the surname seems good. However with the words forming the clue for the first name, nothing is leaping out. is it an obvious solve?

also can soneone help with:

recipe's new tip for tasty flavour
lads pinching bed from hospital's rejects
caledonian goads husband during jaws (wp seems clear here, but that isnt helping)

I was just about to give up on this as very little was making sense, then I came here and was very glad I did.

I had a colossal PDM when I read (several times) the responses to Andyp's post and then re-read the instructions.

I'm still nowhere near, but have renewed hope so thanks to all!

For the 247 clue the answer gives (in 2 words) the figure 247 - but only by a few months. Can anyone help me with the "musical notes" clue?

I am in a similar position to you, I think. It has dawned on me how to enter the solutions a clever idea which has, so far as I know, not been used before. However, with only 27 out of 42 solved, I cannot make much more progress until i have at least 8 or 9 more.

standard recipe abbreviation is the new first letter of a word (informal and shortened form) meaning “tasty” - that switch gives you a synonym for “flavor” (6)

Lad’s pinching bed from hospital rejects =

Straightforward wordplay, 4 letter for lads contains 4 letter hospital bed (4) to give synonym for “rejects” (an eponym from an incident in Ireland in the 19th century)

Caledonian goads husband during Jaws =

.the answer (5) is also the name of a historical British (and later American) political party
