Cockie,

I don’t know if this will make you feel better or worse, but I got that clue cold—although several hours in I have only ten further clues solved, nothing in the grid, and no clue as to the theme.

Please can someone translate PDM for me? I'd never seen GWIT either, but found that online.

After, what I may say, was a very manageable start to the year's Listeners, I've finally met my match. Think this one is beyond me!

wow this is tough - 'eck is arguably too mild a name!

I have solved about 20 clues, and tentatively put in a few at the top.

can someone help with

jake leaves when oscar is delayed
railroad's device worthless outside long island
pulpy flesh on stokes and ponting's peaches

Thanks vm

I suspect that 'Eck is a Yorkshire person who has chosen their name so the title line reads "by 'Eck".

Railroad.. - 4 letter "worthless" around abbr. for "Long Island" - definition is "railroad's devise"

"Jake ..." is also the def. (3), as in 'correct' and it's an abbreviation. A word for leaves moving the first letter.

Phew! Every step of this puzzle presented a challenge—cracking the very tough clues, figuring out how to arrange them in the grid, deducing the quotation’s author, and performing the letter-additions. But it all resulted in a very satisying conclusion that justified all the intricacies. An impressive construction indeed!
