Hi AJT, I've pencilled in answers for 25d, 26d, 27d and 31ac so please can I ask you to confirm (or not!) that the following letter patterns are correct?

33ac T?R?C??
36ac S?A?R??

I thought this was fairer to other solvers than listing my draft solutions...

Hi Simon - I'm not completely confident with that corner myself, but I'm pretty sure that I've got 27 d and 36 ac correct.36a is S?E?D?R. I make 33 ac a themed word, but I don't feel absolutely confident. If I'm right it's T?R?E?S. The only one I've got left is 28 d. Hope this helps

PS Looking at the letters you gave, I think you've got 26d as a themed word, and I don't think that it is. As I said previously, the clue for 36 ac is so goos, hat I think I must be correct with that one.

But have you got 36 ac?What I've got is a themed word, and it fits so well, it must be right, ans that would give an E for the last letter of 26 d. I admit that I can't see the word play for what I've got, and I think I know what you've got. How confusing! Sorry

Exactly. As far as I can see it must be another name, but not a Shakesperean. And as I said, I can't see the word-play

I'm left with 28 d, and I can't see anything

Regarding the word-play I took "19 leaving" to be farewell (vale) RIA, but could not fit the 21st in.

I'm now left with 33 across and 26, 27, and 28 down.
