Thanks Simon, I've got that one, and 25d. I'm stuck with 27d, 28d, and 33ac - which I think must be the theme - I've got 19 of them, 1 to go. How are you going?

Hi AJT, not as well as you! But I have just got 1ac which should open up the north west passage so to speak... south east is strangely unpopulated but I hope 25ac will help to change that.

1ac should give you 4d. Other than that one, there are 2 more themd answers in that corner. Ask if you want any.
1 and 1d were words I'd never heard, but you may of course have a larger vocab. than I.

Thanks for the offer... and, from past experience, I have no doubt your vocabulary far exceeds my own... the fact you'd not heard of 1d is somewhat less than encouraging!

How's your Italian? Two Italian words, but also words in English.

Sorry Simon - I miscounted and misled you. Besides 4 d there are another 3 themed answers in the NW corner. To get 1 of them I googled St Philip

The two Italian words make up the word at 1 d. I think the first part (4 latters) is also a Spanish word. (how are you?) If you get St Philip at 15 ac it will give you the last letter.The complete word is in Chambers, it starts with a capital. I think you've said you've got a Chambers?

By the way, I think 36 ac is a lovely Araucarian clue

Thanks - I think I've got all four and with your clues I should get the rest... I'm buying a Chambers when back in the UK in June so may need to confirm answers with you...
