How about Shakespearean characters as the theme?

5ac Caliban
11ac Bertram
18ac Proteus
6d Lorenzo

20d I think is 'Uni' - Ban Ki-moon is No. 1 at UN.

Jack - Yes, you are right. 21 ac I though must be "Costard" - co-starred, but couldn't see any more apples. But Costard is a Shakesperean character. Thanks again

My knowledge of Shakespearean characters is limited but with the help of Wiki I now at least have a chance...

23D is ANIMATE

13A must be RENE-WED, but that makes 7D B-R-W-E which seems a little unlikely.

But 8D is NOMADES.
