An interesting & difficult challenge. Thank you Pipesmoker.
At this moment of time I would choose:

1. ELGAR: Nimrod from the Enigma variations
2. PACHELBEL: Canon in D ( Many versions of this - my favourite is the Academy of St Martin-in-the-fields, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner)
3. BILLIE HOLIDAY in 1956/ELLA FITZGERALD in 1957: Lady Sings The Blues (2 songs, it is cheating a bit, I know!)
4. VAUGHAN WILLIAMS: Fantasia on Greensleeves
5. SIMON & GARFUNKEL: The Sound of Silence & Scarborough Fair/ Canticle (Another cheat)
6. JOHNNY PEARSON: Sleepy Shores
7. J. S. BACH: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
8. MOZART: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

Those who did not make the 8 but were high on the list include:
ROLLING STONES: Honky Tonk Women & Little Red Rooster
STRAUSS: Tritsch Tratsch & Explosions Polkas
LENNON & MCCARTNEY: Yesterday
GORDON LIGHTFOOT: Rainy Day People & Sundown.

My book would be "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time"
An item of luury would be my old panama hat that goes everwhere with me!!
Regards,
NIMROD

Nimrod - An interesting selection and I do agree it has been difficult to choose 8. Hope your child going to Uni gets on well.

I forgot my luxury item. This would have to be lots of canvas and my oil paints. The book requires more thought

I just saw this thread earlier today - and I've really enjoyed seeing the variety of music chosen as well as all those U-tube things (I'm not very computer literate) that sallyw provided. My choices (and I hope it's not too late) are
1.O Luce di quest'anima (Donizetti) Joan Sutherland.
2. La Mer Charles Trenet
3. Let's Do It Noel Coward
4.Theme from Last of the Mohicans
5. Miserere mei, Deus (Allegri) King's College Chapel Choir
6. The Kerry Dance John McCormack
7. My Funny Valentine Chet Baker
8. Finlandia Hymn Sibelius

My book would be anything by Bill Bryson
and my luxury my goose down pillows.

Welcome HelenB. Glad you found this site. Enjoyed reading your selection especially Finlandia.

Wee J liked your choice too especially Bach.

Nimrod, if anyone is out and about in Cheshire would they recognise you by the panama hat? By the way I will not be out and about in Cheshire. Just joking!

At last my choice of book. It would have to be the complete works of Barbara Pym.
