Following on from my last posting in RT39, I invite contributors to share the eight discs they would take to Radio 4's desert island.

Mine are:

Mozart's Laudate Dominum. Sung by Hayley Westenra.

Eli Jenkin's Prayer. Sung by Harry Secombe

Tocelli's Serenata. Sung by Beniamino Gigli

Loch Tay Boat Song. Sung by Peter Mallan

Pearl Fishers' Duet. Sung by Jussi Bjoerling and Robert Merrill.

Intermezzo from Cavaleria Rusticana. Played by Philip McCann (Cornet).

The Lark in the Clear Air. Sung by Brendan O'Dowda.

The 23rd Psalm to the tune Orlington. Sung by the Glasgow Orpheus Choir.

My luxury would be my pipe and a container load of Condor Tobacco, and since I am not a great reader, my book would be a huge crossword book, without answers printed at the back.

I hope you will share your musical taste with us.

Many thanks.

Great idea Pipesmoker...

Looking forward to this tread. The Pearl Fisher's Duet would probably be on my list as well.

I have to go out now, but will be thinking hard.

Take care,

The Pearl Fisher's was my dad's favourite piece. We played it at the funeral, and up until then I was in control, but when it echoed through the crematorium, I bawled like a baby!

Great idea Pipesmoker! I will have to give this some thought, but am sure Kathleen Ferrier singing `Blow the Wind Southerly` would be included.

Pipesmoker:

What a good idea! I've often mused what my eight records would be if I was a castaway on a desert island so I'll have a think, and having thunk, I'll be back in due course.

With best wishes,

Caravaggio

Hi Pipesmoker
Loved your choice of music - have been listening on Youtube - had to substitute with The Corries for the Tay Boat Song. Think I was at the concert.. ?

Hi Pipesmoker. Hope you are well.
My choice would be all of Beethoven's symphonies but as I am only allowed 8,I would have to exclude symphony no.8. Not because it is inferior but because it is the shortest one of the nine he composed.
