I've just logged back in to find lots more posts.Thank you for your help xwordfan.
Keepatit - you've confirmed my suspicion that some cells contain 3 letters. Nowhere in the preamble does it mention this possibility ('some cells contain two letters') and that was the query in my original post. I'm annoyed that there seems to be an error in the instructions.
Therefore... I can't rely on any of the letters I already have to help me solve the missing grid entries - do I have to cold solve each clue?
At least I have the theme lol!

Gazzar, if you have the theme, a methodical approach will show you where to go (literally).

Sunray -

5d - the definition is 'broken path

32a - the definition is 'tool for opening door'. Two words of the clue are to be removed. The first 4 letters of the grid entry are the grid entry for 31a.

Hope that helps :-)

Thank you for the definition, I slapped my hands Malone, I didn't see the tiny 3 by the tattoo and jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Thank you gazzar.
31 is a 4 letter word for overthrow.

Let me see if I can't break both.

I’d like to ask for help with 7a “Let him take a cloak “ It’s at least 4 letters and probably ends in A
37a “ Card-sharp’s pursuing unknown beginner” at least 4 letters and ending in y.
Is this the UK version?, because, if so, I can’t even get close to the locations.

37a - clue is wrong - cards sharp comes after unknown per clue - but in fact the unknown comes after the cards - sharp in the answer
