Hi Wintonian - so in a nutshell if I read you right what you are saying is that the grid entry for 24dn starts with a 'U'? Very messy and not a little ambiguous - though I can see your logic!

I found this the toughest puzzle of the year so far - I wasn't on Sabre's wavelength as regards the clues, and without Novice's information yesterday about the thematic modification I'd have given up with less than half the clues cold-solved.

Have got a full grid, but no idea on the thematic word, a hint wd be welcome....

Very hard this one. Funnily enough I got the theme word and diagonal early on which helped with some of the answers, although the word 'misdemeanour' held me up for quite some time. However I can't make head nor tail of the SW corner, namely 26, 28, 35, 18, 22 and 23. Any hints?
I have an idea about a couple, but like some of the entered ones, I cannot seem to parse them.

That's funny - I'm left with the same clues apart from 22 which is NEPTUNE.
