Hi, Rusty!
Elise must be feeling very disappointed.......such an end to her hopes and dreams.
But she has somewhat of a history of disqualification?
Is this just the nature of the sport... or is there a fault in her technique that she repeats?
( I am speaking as a complete amateur here...I know very little about the events in which she takes part)
Now...we have sunshine!
So I am away to walk the dog.......whilst the window of good weather lasts!
Back in a bit!

Hello, Elle!
Elise is the reigning World Champion and World Record holder.
So, that would tell you that she is excellent at what she does...
except at Olympic Games!
Her disqualification may well impact on GB's future in the sport.
The funding they receive is performance related and they were looking for one, at least, or two, medals from Short Track.
She said she is going on to the Beijing Winter Games!
Can the nation's nerves stand it?
There are many disqualifications in Short Track, often ones that Joe Public can not discern from his seat at home.
So, the racers and us at home can be at the mercy of the judges as to whether there was fouling or whatever, going on.
On a brighter note, Trotty has been tweeting that she has had great help and support from Jess Ennis-Hill since her baby was born, and since she has started training again.
Very nice to hear!

Hi, Rusty!
We are home.......and definitely not going out again to face yet more rain.
The sunshine unfortunately did not last long......!
But it was good to get out!
I am 'programmed' for two walks a day!!
I did not realise that Elise is the reigning World Champion....I do not follow the winter sports.
I wonder why she has such a problem with Olympic events?
If she is so experienced , one wouldn't think it would be "nerves"?
Trotty and Jess are poles apart in their disciplines.......I wonder what sort of help and support Jess can offer?
Maybe just moral?
I like Jess - she seems a very genuine person.
What have you been doing this afternoon?
Did you go out for a walk?

Could it be that both Laura and Jessica are newish Mums with gold medals?

Hello, Elle!
Jess got back into training soon after she had Reggie.
Trotty is doing the same following the birth of Albie.
I would think it is just advice and tips of training after giving birth is what Jess is passing on.
I do know, however, that Trotty is very appreciative of Jess's tuppenceworth!
I like Jess, too....and Trotty!
Poor Elise, I am not confident she would have won the event even if not turfed out.
There is a super South Korean girl racing in it.
If you watch Short Track, you will discover that it is not difficult to get disqualified.
It is a great day here, but cold weather is coming at the weekend!

Hi, Rusty!
Advice and training tips are the sort of 'moral' support I had in mind!
Sounds friendly and sensible......
I am sure Jess' help will be invaluable to Laura.
It is nice that there is such good rapport across the board.
How did you find the crossword today?
I liked 15 a: o nap late (on a plate) !
also 6a, and 11d
I am stuck on 23 d though.....
Rum for one to steal (4)
?N?H
I wondered if it could be "inch" as to "steal"/ move slowly and cautiously?
but what has "rum for one" got to do with it?

Elle, Rum is a Scottish island - an island can also be an Inch.

Hello, Elle!
I liked the puzzle today.
19a was a new word to me.
23, is as you and Malone have it.
Quite a good clue.
I have just been on AnswerBank and discovered that Mikey, one of the AB's stalwarts has died suddenly today.
He sometimes posted on here, too.
Very sad, I believe he was looking forward to his retirement, too.

Hello rusty
I had just seen the sad news that Mikey had died suddenly. He was quite a character and am sure he will be missed. Rest in peace Mikey x
