Trust I split it correctly.

I remember now...had the same prob as you, assumed in the end light=sharp(tart), bit loose though if thats it.

I know what you mean, I normally keep at those until they make sense...but doing to many crosswords at once just now to have the energy.

Pity the Spectator doesn't annotate its solutions. Would be very helpful for those starting, not to mention explaining those WTF answers.

If you look up LIGHT 2 in Chambers and read through all the definitions it gives "unchaste" as one of them.

Glad this thread has been restarted,as I have the grids half full but am making no new progress even on my last six supposedly "normal" down clues,namely:

vocabulary needed?
16B:European agency's taking cover,being in the wrong place.I have no letters whatever!
17A:Take thyat silly present back,a little contrite...(not sure about division of clues here).3rd letter presumably T.
20A&B:Money extracted from profitable,feathery grass ---outgrowth's no good.Answer A begins (I hope) with P;Answer B possibly has an A as 3rd letter.
If anyone can help with any of these, I could get on with the really difficult ones left!
