Any hints for B 22D. Have ?I?A. Over 50 possibles, but none make sense (to me).

Thanks Peterm.

Suspected that earlier, because it gave a viable answer, though the "heavy metal" is still a mystery.
Will have to rethink B 23A. "Durham, say" anagrammed with a Scottish man's name worked perfectly. )-:

The "heavy metal" in B22dn is simply the chemical symbol of a metal. The "man" in B23ac is a common 4-letter man's name.

Yes, B 22D became clear a moment later.

For 23A, interpreted Durham as "EARL", but that doesn't seem correct now ?E?(P)?A?E, which changes the "way" from sky to water.

You're almost there syzygy - your letters are right - but think of Durham episcopally.
