Just finished it after following a few false trails. Like you ixion, I don't understand 24a. The last word refers to the inserted answer, but I can't see how the remainder defines the concealed word beginning with the last three letters of the inserted one.

Just twigged 24ac. Depart is a reversal indicator for in, thereby giving the chemical symbol for the element with the same name as the coin!
