Completed this eventually :)

Has anyone also noticed that the form for online submission hasn’t been updated to include the originally missing clues? The Grauniad’s crossword IT circus rolls on :)

Thanks to Claw for the fun and to Jono for the interactive grid - much appreciated.

All 26 clues are indeed now in the form as Brendan says. Sadly, no spaces for the unclued 10, 9, though.

I have to admit that I laughed aloud when that 10, 9 became clear as the grid filled. Both Sunday’s EV and now the Genius taking a trip back to childhood!

Help please! All done - but: Is the answer to the clue about Frank a US State? And, if so, how does the wordplay work? Thanks.

Hi Colin,

It looks like you have the right answer.

The definition relies on "whence" as in 'from which place'? and the wordplay is a subtractive anagram (including extra letter and abbr. for "strangeness" (yes, there is one!)

... sorry, not subtractive but just an anagram/'extraordinary' with "heroine initially" and "run" both "away".

Thanks very much. I get it now. Very odd clue.

Thanks Colin.

If you exclude the 6 missing clues, that was actually my LOI as I either didn't know or had forgotten that use of "whence".
