Late to the party but thankful for hints on 9a. Can't parse 5d, though it's clearly straightforward as it hasn't been commented on. I think I get the hit, but don't see the rest.

Hi Grum,
5d reads from the bottom up, 6 letter word for hit and a 2 letter word for while, then insert one letter ‘end of baton’

just read it opwards

Got it now - 'hit while'...of course

I have finally finished. I usually enjoy Paul but this was a real slog.

I am entirely stumped by 1a and 6a. 6d I think I'll get once I've solved 6a. Done the rest of the puzzle.

1a I have F?E?/B?T?S - is that right? Any hints on how I can solve this?

6a I have ??e? - again, any hints would be very much appreciated.

Hi Necko, welcome to the Forum:-)

1a - A + 3 letter "rotating tool" (think 'drill') all inside 5 letter "bolts" (as a verb) - definition is "minor inconveniences" and all your letters are correct.

6a - is an anagram but you have to split "shipwrecked" to get the indicator. Your E is wrong though.
