Aristophanes,

I am sorry. I knew your posting was meant as a joke. So was mine. Mind you, anymore attempts to make us Brits fight amongst ourselves and we'll have to come over there and burn down The Whitehouse again.

Oh please, please do! Its upkeep is far too taxing. (Notice I haven't mentioned Lexington and Concord.)

Careful, Terry -- they might retaliate by (oh no!) throwing tea into Boston harbour...

Bullfrog: A fateful episode- Boston Harbour became Boston Harbor (the U was apparently too upper-class). But they had another Tea Party there just last year!

Well AJT -- I'm not sure who wins. The original poster fails to come up with any explanation at all, but a couple of rhe respondents offer the newspaper theory. I have to say it was a pretty feeble analysis generally, with particularly poor readings of the wordplay at 32 and 11.
I suggest we keep our (virtual) stakes and spend them on a very large (literal) toast to absent friends, of whom there have been far too many just lately.

Thanks for letting me know, Bullfrog. Probably my old age is showing in that standards in crossword setters seem to be slipping these days.
Shall we say that w were both right?
