I'd call this an unfair puzzle. The connections between the theme and the unclued lights are unusually loose. Some of the cryptic elements are weak. If this is Lavatch's usual style, I'll excuse myself from his next teaser and do something useful instead.

Hello Zardoz - yes, 22d is a golf term.17d is an anagram of r (resistance) and inmicevet. It's the name of a drug, so it may not be in every dictionary. I found it in the latest Chambers.

I've given up on 20d, I'm ashamed to say.

Finally got it. There are 2 drugs, starting with "a" & "i". Chambers Word Wizard gave neither.

The end of 20d ? Can't pair it, but just got an idea. Will check.
