Has anyone got the 4 letter disappearance on the top row and the 9 letter one on the bottom row ? In my opinion the puzzle is spoilt by there being too many permutations for all but one of the six.

"Always puzzled" wasn't as puzzled as I was, but thanks to his/her help with the placement of the blank entries, I think I've managed to get there in the end.

son1ofrover1 - the one on the bottom row starts "thy". I'm not totally convinced about the 4 letter one at the top (my entry creates a name as one of the downs rather than an ordinary word) but it starts "ka".

Thanks Kirky and Stephen53 for getting me over the line with the bottom row. It means I can sleep on the train between Manchester and London tomorrow morning.
