This is my first attempt at the Genius and I'm having trouble even getting started.

Do I need to get a handle on the nine related solutions? Are there hints to what connects these solutions or the topic/subject in the clues anywhere (e.g. I notice a few clues mention things to do with water.) There are also some repeated elements in the clues, such as 'dash', 'Boatman' and 'root' - are these significant?

Any pointers gratefully received.

Probably best to start the 4 letter clues....dash, root and Boatman aren't significant....this is one the hardest Geniuses in a while.

If I enter what I think is correct for 23 ac it means 16 dn turns into a plural form when I think it should refer to a person using an object - but if I keep that letter what then is the fourth letter of 23 ac? Abit over-intricate for me all ths

I'm assuming its of group 2, but ????
Any assistance much appreciated, thanks

Toughest Genius I can remember for a long while.
Finally got there, except I still don't get 24d ("Before?...")
Sure of crossing letters & believe it must be type three with theme letters removed. Any help appreciated.
Thanks
