23 ac involves taking the theme letters out of a word for weathermen. That means it doesn't have the same starting letter as 17. But i'm not confident about the second word in 23d - and still can't get 20 despite Ixion's kind help ...

The 2nd word in 23D seems to work best if you think of pound as "enclosure"...

The wordplay in 20D begins with "or", everything before that is defn...the homophone part doesn't really work in my (Scottish) accent but is probably OK for the SE.

This has been a bit of a struggle, but I'm down to the last 2. I've got an answer for 25ac, assuming it's defined by 21ac, but I can't parse it. Can someone give a nudge, please? If I can be sure of that, I'll work on 26dn, which so far is a complete blank.

25a is a word for fashionable joined to a word for profession (but not in the professional sense) without a word for no different than. Seems to me to be defined by 28d - but I haven't been very good at linkng the second group of solutions to the first - was considerably held up by thinking what was meant was the first nine solutions in the puzzle rather than in the rubric. 26d requires removal of the four themed letters. Still stumped on 20 and 23d

Thanks prospero. Back to the drawing board for 25ac. I can't really add anything to what's already been said about 20dn other than agree that it involves a dodgy (even with my SE accent) homophone. 23dn is defined by 27dn, if that helps.

Thanks ixion. I've got 26dn now and it confirms what I've got for 25ac. I still can't parse 25ac, but I'll keep working on it. I found this one a real toughie.

Hello - I've been struggling with this on and off all afternoon and like you, peterm, had identified 25A as a type 2, defined by 21A, but I can't parse it. I can't work out what this profession word is, or no different from (like, same?).

Also having trouble with 27A. I have the answer - it's a type 3, isn't it and the grain is probably rice, but I can't parse it either.
