Good evening, Elle!
You can relax now your family is safe home.
My copy of Chambers gives "vomit" as a meaning of "cat".
I'd think it should be in yours, too?
I am running late here.
Just about to eat my tea!

Hi, Rusty!
You are indeed late in eating your tea!
What did you have ?
Yes, "vomit " is given in my Chambers too.... but I still cannot understand why "cat" should mean puke / vomit?
I looked it up in Brewers but could find no explanation?
There must be some reason for such a use of the word?
Younger daughter starts her new job tomorrow!
Fingers crossed she has a good first day!

Hello, Elle!
I had steak sausages and tatties!
Was fine!
Ah! I see now what you mean by "cat/puke".
According to my Chambers "cat" is an Old English word for "vomit".
That appears to be the origin of the word.
It does not appear to be related to the feline "cat", but a completely different word, which is spelled the same, if that makes sense?
That's what I make of it anyway, Elle.
I think your younger daughter will be fine!

Update, Elle!
Just ignore my interpretation of "cat/vomit".
I think I am way wrong!
I think both "cats" have the same origin, but I would not put a shilling on it.

Hi, Rusty!
I like sausages!
I once had apricot sausages, when out to dinner........ unusual and delicious!
I give up on this cat / puke business....it just doesn't make any sense to me - whatever it says in the dictionary!
Yes, I am sure my daughter's first day will go well.
She was invited to the new firm's Summer party, as I think I mentioned -and so already has met some of her prospective colleagues.
She is looking forward to the future challenges.
Back to normal in the morning.....no grandchildren up as dawn breaks.....

Good morning, Elle!
Nice dry morning here.
I am just home.
Had a bit of a stravaig after getting my paper earlier.
Now, sausages!
Yesterday in ASDA i saw "Pork and Armagh Bramley Apple Sausages"!
I may try them one day.
Yes, best forgetting about "cat".
I had not come across that meaning before.
Similar to "priest" meaning "club for killing fish".
But I have no idea why.

Good morning, Rusty!
A somewhat dull, coolish day here.....
I am running a tad late this morning.
Now I think I know what "stravaig" means ...you have used it before ... a wandering without purpose?
And why not , if it is a nice day!
Yes, try the apple sausages!
I shall be interested to hear what they are like!
I have never again come across apricot ones.......but they were 'out of this world'!
I have a free day ahead of me......!
So.....time to do the crossword!

I think the origin of "priest" is something to do with last rites!

Hello, Elle!
It is cloudy but dry here!
Yes, that is the meaning of "stravaig".
A fine word, I think.
Anne B has it under "wander", too.
I'll look for the pork and apple sausages later in the week.
I do not often eat meat.
I have done half the puzzle.
Will finish it later.

Hello, Rosalind!
That is a very plausible explanation of "priest".
I am sure you are right, though I have never came across it before!
