Ionacarr: I think the 'systematic' refers to something else (although still struggling with a good number of the double clues myself...). Note that there's three ways to 'treat' each half of the double clues, and that you'll use two of them (one, distinct, on each half). Therefore, there's one unused treatment for each clue. Those clues that I've solved seem to fit with that pattern, but I could be wrong!

I can't bring much to this party I'm afraid, except in 31 across the affected words are DON (I think) and TOW (I'm as certain as I can be).

Further, 24 across: CANED and TYPE.

I'd be really grateful for (either half of) 11A, 13A, 29A, 19D, 20D or 30A.

I've got both halves of:
1A, 23A, 31A, 7D, 14D, 15D, 21D and 26D.

Thanks.

Demeter - this sounds like the Shell petrol "matching halves of bank notes" promotion of the 1960s! I'm showing my age now.

Carpox: I'm not sure I agree with the don/tow split. Agree with tow, but I think the first half of that clue has an adjustment (of the same letter as you've got) to re. This, of course, assumes that my conjecture about the 'systematic' nature of the adjustments still holds.

Demeter: I can potentially help (for a given value of help) with 29ac, 30ac, 19d.

29ac: Affected words are YE (I think) and MAIDS. Clue split between those two;
30ac: Single clue. Neither words are in Chambers;
19d: Affected words are CE and FLUTER, clue split between OVER and FOR.

Got the phrase, source and real title. The left-hand side of the grid is giving me no end of trouble.

Also, demeter, 23ac and 7d are still two that I'm missing (although the resultant word for 7d is fairly clear).

I can help with some of them, Demeter.

In 29ac the word for treatment in the second half is indeed MAIDS (resulting in a simple double def - but is it really so simple? Perhaps I'm wrong)
In 20dn the clue is normal: 'to begin with' indicates that part of the answer is a prefix.

I need help of the same indirect kind (not a straight reveal!) with 23ac (first half), 31 ac (second half), and 7dn (first half) please.

I think tandethsquire's conjecture is the correct one.

23ac (second half) is AGED, a devious anagrind
7d (second half) is AMIS

IonaCarr, 23 is Flower and you need a comparative.
31 is town ( dialect). 7 is bear, ( Spenser's Have) and drink is last word of clue. You're right about 29's double def.
