I can't sleep so I checked it out. Looks like there's a clue missing: 25D doesn't appear in the Java or print versions. Good old Grauniad!

hi liv
agree there is a clue missing. I emailed guardian. i think the clue for 21d shown as (6) belongs to 22d, and the clue for 22d shown as (5) belongs to 25d. ie the missing clue belongs to 21d.

I thought 25D might be the "other partner"...more worried by the letter count at 21D...hopefully a few answers will clarify things

Good shout dizoz, hadn't noticed dodgy letter count at 22D as well

Hi from Australia, where the puzzle was available at 11am!

I kind of agree, though I think clues 21D and 22D actually belong to 22D and 25D, and the clue for either 20D or 21D is missing -- more likely 21D as I can manage with clue 20D's partner going into light 20D.

I've emailed the crossword editor at the Guardian, so we'll see what they say.

Yes, I'm sure it's the clue to 21D that is missing. I can finish the puzzle if I assume that the answer to the missing 21D is one of the two founders of the Eternal City (5), with the light being the other one (7).

Anyone agree?

hi Germy,
I agree.
I downloaded about 11.30am.(Dapto NSW)
You have made great progress.
I'm troubled a bit by the theme.(or just stupid) but I'll keep going in good Aussie style :-).

Does anybody else have a feeling of deja vu about the theme?

The Crossword Editor has replied:

I fear that you are quite right. I am getting it corrected ASAP. Meanwhile here is a version of how the puzzle was intended to look.
My apologies.

20.Hirst's original work? (7)
21. Hull bird admitted to Royal Society (7)
