Got a few more after the Scandinoir, then did the washing up. I did get 39d myself, but thanks for the hints on 17d. I'm getting gritty eyes now, so I think I'll call it a day and resume tomorrow. I'll be sharing with my friend in Sheffield tomorrow morning. I expect she has finished. I was in Sheffield last weekend and did the crossword with her. I did enjoy all those palindromes.

I think I should look at the thread properly. I just scanned it originally to find out what the symbols meant.

Arrived back from Australia on Thursday, enjoyed crosswords online while there but it is so good to have my paper again! Maskarade is my favourite compiler so this is a great Easter treat, working my way through slowly with help from you guys. Like you Roof I loved the palindromes last week.

Mattrom, thank you. May have solved it, if the symbols in 61d and 38d are related. Not sure why it is a difficult problem (ironically took me longest to solve!) But heigh ho.
