OK - think I'm finished, but as is my wont I'm requesting some clarification on the following...

9A - Friend=AM=associate member?
23A - allae=quite?
39A - Uncle Sams terms=UM?
19D - Onelook gives two possibles - the spicy Pr or the batty Mr - guessing Pr most likely(also assuming 1D is hyphened)
30D - See the Mr C connection but don't understand the wordplay
