I'm not a fan of the theme. Could someone provide the initial letters of the names to highlight? I think two are G and E but I've no idea what the others are.

I'm more of a fan, but never enjoy a grid search.

I assume that G/W is another, buut can't be arsed to search further.

Would like to know the answer from someone who can.

As starting letters I have G; E and R for the first 3 "characters" but I can't see how to proceed from there.

I'm a bit stuck in the bottom right-hand corner.

Can someone give me a hint for 40D (what's the definition?), and let me know what the missing/incorrect letter is for 36D (I assume the answer is the obsolete term for an ox)?

Thanks.

In 40d add the N after a 3-letter word

My ODQ is quite an old one; the only entries for L*** are for Andrew L***, and don't seem to have any relevance. Have I got the right poet ?

Now I do see some relevance. Seems Andrew L*** is correct. They could do with John E and some of the others right now...

Number 3 isn't likely to have done his thing alongside nos 1 and 2 (I'm trying to avoid giving too much away), so can we assume that nos 4 and 5 (searching the memory yields nothing) are equally varied? The "obvious" 22 cells giving the shape don't seem to yield anything either.
