Confirmed this is a very easy puzzle as I finished it without any help from here, for perhaps only the 4th time ever. :) Despite originally assuming it would be something to do with Geoff Hurst as his autobiog also refers to the funny book and the first tranche of extra words I got were the last nine down clues! Spent ages looking for extra words to make up "world" and "hat-trick"!

I had solo entered - such porous as in osmosis etc... but it is surely me who is barking up the wrong tree...! .... too mugh g and not enough t.. Cheers

A bit late to doing this. Grid filled but puzzled by highlighting. I'm thinking Bayeux tapestry and found three relevant letters bottom left but nothing seems to lead to them.

Look in the diagonals all then should become clear
