Hi everyone! I have come late to this today and see no one has needed help. But, again, I do:
I have an answer for 9d but do not know which letter to remove.
For anyone out there the clue is: one beaten side on deck (7) I have an anagram of a and one side but one letter has to be remov ed and the other letters made into a real word. My cells read - NA?IOS and I can't see a word...

Hi Jogamel, the letter to be removed is E. Your N is wrong.

I really needed that E. a key. Thankee.

Again I am getting leg locked so need your help. It is the bottom left corner and I am pr event ed from getting the A word needed for enlightenment.
I have surname for 49a. Is this wrong? I am failing to find an acceptable answer. (I have ecru for 40d.) I'm more hampered because I cannot see 34d which is a normal clue:
Earth dumped in old shaft in places (6) I have STE?L?

Hi, surname is right, with R to be removed. Ecru is right...and it's Steale (e in stale).

hi jogamel, I'm a bit confused by your posting re 9d. An anagram of: a one side is eight letters.

Nelson I must apologise. 9d was a six letter entry after a letter was removed from the answer. I did not explain.
Now I find I have one letter missing in 44d which I had missed.
Can turning end in complete darkness (4)

I've got NITE for 44d. I too am stuck on the bottom left corner.

I don't understand your first post when you say 9d is an anagram of "a" and "one side". How can that be when the answer has seven letters?

Can =tin. Reverse this and add the last letter from 'complete'.
I still don't get 9d.
