"The answer to 6 goes first to the west, then NE, then NW and W etc."

which is why I had C?IL?

Starts with K but the end is not L. It ends in the next cell.

I think message 10 is wrong with the W. The I is not to the W of the L but to the NW and the answer then continues E, NE and W to a . cell

Message 10 is indeed wrong and I wasted a lot of time believing it. But I must take responsibility for my own efforts and not rely totally on others. Thanks, notrab.

Thanks Smithsax. Of course the L is the ending of clue 33, I had overlooked the double.. in the S cell. I can now enjoy a pre-dinner sherry!!

Can someone give me a clue as to 12 which I think is 'T????N'. I don't have Collins so have no idea for verification. Thanks in advance.
