I don't have the same letter missing from start and end of 21a. The two missing letters would form a well known city.

Thanks jafo. That's the loose one I was thinking of. Is it meant as the verb rather than the noun, do you think? It really doesn't seem to work as a noun.

Last two in SW corner proving troublesome:

27A Horse's tail pulled by bull in spring and autumn? E?E???E
24D Material girl ?K??
Incidentally, aren't the two missing letters in 21A both M?

You have some letters wrong, cymro. Third letter of 27 isn't E; second letter of 24 isn't K

...and no, two Ms would be unpronounceable!

27 across - your 2nd E is wrong, so once you get that sorted, 24 down should be clear!
I am stuck on 1a and 1 down - can get answers to both, but different first letters. Help, please!

Hi liz
I'm not very happy about the first 3 letters of 1a, but my answer does start with the same letter as 1d
