Thanks Paul - I always try to work out the clues given by others who had more or less the same idea as me, and then I think 'Now, why couldn't I think of that?' because it then looks so obvious. I think I might try too hard and the simplest (yet good) clues are the best. Mine are clumsy - But I shall persist !

@pigale: your 12, in my opinion, has a good surface reading, and your earlier entry is ok, but less good ... 12 is a nice ultra-short story, which I've always regarded as the ideal when aiming to create the surface.

I wouldn't call either of them 'clumsy'.
