I can't make up my mind whether or not to change the first letter of 41a. Has anyone any thoughts ?

Immediate thought is that 41A doesn't exist!

Adding to the list of inconsistency, 1A should start PNE, but apparently not - 3D is YT

Actually the Y in 1acr is not strictly pronounced as long E according to Chambers; I thought that too. I am beginning to think it is actually consistent. My objection to 22d is resolved in later editions of Chambers. 42acr still bothers me.

I think one would only change the first letter of 47acr to J if the word started with the sound 'jay'. Doesn't the sound nave to match the name of the letter?

I have 47 starting J. Compare the sound of jester and gesticulated.

No, the issue is whether it starts with a 'JAY' sound, not whether it's a hard or soft G.

Surely the only letters to change are where there is truncation. 47 starts with G. On the phonetics thing, isn't it correct to pronounce the end of 1D 'meant', not 'mönt' ?
