It was one of the Corries, Roy Williamson, who wrote the dirge, "Flower of Scotland".
The uncheeriest song ever written!

don' t know the words, and I didn't know it was written by one of the Corries, but isn't "Flower of Scotland " considered to be the 'unofficial' National Anthem of Scotland? I'm sure I've heard my cousin mention it?

Morning everyone,

Though I'm a 'froggie', my husband was American with VERY STRONG Scottish origins, of which he was so proud!
And yes elle, to him Flower of Scotland was the Scottish national anthem,
And I will also tell you that whenever there are Rugby matches, all the French TV commentators absolutely adore Flower of Scotland!

As for this to do about THE thread, I would just like to say to those who complained LIVE AND LET LIVE ! if you dont like it, just don't read it! Good luck Rusty and elle!

Thank you for your kind words, Pigalle!
We have no official anthem in Scotland.
Flower of Scotland or Scotland the Brave are the two usually sung, with Scots Wha Hae in third place.
For me, I am with the young ones on this one.
They favour 500 Miles, me too, or Runrig's version of Loch Lomond.!
