Hello, Elle,
To me, a Stilton cheese is an inanimate object.
Not an "I".
"I" is a personal pronoun, I think it is called.
If the clue said, "it has a place on the board", it would do.
But never "I".
Standards are falling!
But, you parsed it perfectly well.
What do you make of Chesapeake and the werowance?

Hey, Rusty!
Yes, I see what you mean about cheese being an inanimate object.
But I have seen this inappropriate personalisation (using "I") before in crosswords.
Now ""Chesapeake"....
It began easier than did "Centennial" - I found that initial chapter of Centennial hard to grasp - my having to read some of the descriptions more than once?......
But I cannot as yet see where the story of "Chesapeake" is going?
I have just concluded the First Voyage., but have not ventured further yet.......
I do not know how it will develop....I am wondering whether maybe it follows the lives of different leaders (werowances)?
However, I shall as the story progresses........
(But do not tell me!)

Hello, Elle!
Whatever else cheese is, it is not an "I"!
Your story will progress with the arrival of the people who eventually populate the land and marshes along the Choptank.
There are strong women characters in the tale.
I think you will like them.
Stick with it!

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, I like to hear of strong female characters!
I can just see myself as a pioneer!
I have been wrapping the presents I have bought for our granddaughter, her new half brother, and their mum.
We are going a-visiting tomorrow morning!
Not only shall we meet the new baby, we have yet to see their new living accommodation, as they have very recently moved house.
I told you it would be a busy week!

Good afternoon, Rusty!
Where are you ?
There doesn't appear to be any sign of you about?
Our visit was a great success!
The new baby is delightful! Our granddaughter loves him to bits, and is very helpful to her mum.
The presents were gratefully received and seemed to be good choices.
We are to be honorary grandparents! - and any residual awkwardness due to the circumstances seems to have vanished.
You were right, these things work themselves out!
All will be well in the future, I am sure!
How is your car?
Have you been to collect it?

Good evening, Elle!
Yes, I am about.
That is excellent news regarding your visit.
You approached it with a very positive attitude and everything appears to be coming up roses!
Quite a few of us have families like that.
I was divorced many years ago, but got on great with my mother-in-law up until the day she died. Why ever not?
My car is fine. Collected it this morning and had a bit of a yarn when I was there with the garage owner (about football!)

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I am relieved that all is going to be all right!
I have to admit to being somewhat worried beforehand.
But we have had a good talk !
Good news about your car.
Elder daughter has just been on the phone - they are on holiday in Northumberland., over the half term holiday week.
They are having a good time, although unfortunately the weather is not great.
They are by the beach.
It has been warmer here today surprisingly.
I haven' t looked at any of the crossword yet.......has Mr R brought forth anything strange or startling today?

Hi, Rusty!
Okay, here goes.........
This is what I think........tell me if you got the same?
19a: sue = bring action (def)
Eus (ton)
Half of Euston station reversed.
21a: osier = basket maker (def)
(h)osier - as an Eastender might say it.
27 a: Yes, you have this right! you are spot on!
"Ester" sounds like "Esther"
Well, it does to me - no problem there?

Hello, Elle,
Yes, you are correct.
The first two were very easy, I thought.
I had heard of Euston Station.
But, ester and Esther I would pronounce differently.
There is a "th" sound in Esther, but not in ester.
I was surprised at the setter thinking they were the same.
But you agree?
