Excuse me tagging on to this thread. I have seven of the eight and think the last is involved with 20d Laurie? Child looked after and sheltered (7) l?E?A?? or possibly 27a Furious females making chaps at Brussels face day of reckoning (9) E?M?N???S. Help with both much appreciated.

20d Laurie? _ Author (3)
Child looked after (by a guardian) (4)

The whole means sheltered.

I thought "day of reckoning" was a bit loose - it only applied in retrospect; it had a much more mundane meaning.
