Thanks for all you help with Irish Comedian and the shoe. I would not have got them. These might help with 13D and 17D.
Glad to see you back chrise. Hope you had a good holiday. Are there any birds of paradise in Costa Rica?

Hi mondrian - thanks
No birds of paradise, but resplendent quetzals and scarlet macaws, and lots of other smaller colourful birds too - one, a painted bunting, had a red front, blue head and green back - couldn't believe it!

I am brain dead on 11a
Den and container losing third of caterpillar (6)

I have L?R?A?

If it is Larvae I can't parse.
If it is Lariat - I can possible parse but don't see how that can be correct.

Help please
thanks

I'm undecided on this one. It' s probably LARVAE - LA(i)R and VA(s)E with the third letter missing in each case. However LARVAL fits the definition better - LAR as above, and V(i)AL

I see the parsing, jazzy, but I don't think the definition works. "Of caterpillar" would be "larval", but "caterpillar" would be "larva" rather than (plural) "larvae".

Compiler error, perhaps?
