Can anyone please explain the wordplay for 11a - it can only be one word (G unchecked) and I know A is the extra letter but why? Thanks

Also - reading the previous posts I am pretty sure it is not 8 letters on bottom row - in another row there is a 6 letter phrase no one has mentioned.

It was in the original broadcast BJ said Do "4 2 6" the 6 being the bottom line. Any thoughts on 11a wordplay?

Yes, I knew that - I think the problem for me is that I don't really like either version.

Re 11... I couldn't come up with the wordplay (and like you, I had the 'a').

I like the 4/2/6 phrase. It can't just be coincidence.
On the other hand, I wouldn't call it an effect.
