Oh, the mists have cleared....
The middle 5 letters of LILINGOP are the "t" and the first , second and last letters are the C.

Im stuck on 12 or should it be one down & 24 across. But I think I've got the rest sorted

1down is the name for the points over the e of bronte

I should have added that I have ?n, ?a? for 24A.

Problem comes with 14 down which gives me an A for the middle letter of the last word which is a rodent.

14 down is another name for Rommel

I have it now - I had the wrong animal as the last part of name for Rommel, I think Oldyalan may have had the same thought. Thanks all for help, I can go and have a cup of tea now!
