Hiu my friemds. What a great success today, In addition to Rossim and Andyc, thank you RE, Chrise, P@, Jazzy, Rambler, Mary6 and djaw. Many thanks ab! A super grand slam with all the parsing supplied. Although not necessary, I'll cut and paste my working.

1. the German = der; telephone = ring; party = do. DERRING-DO = daring action (Chambers D)

2. conclusion to delicate = e; touches on = refers; ‘touches on surrounding’ = re(e)fers = REEFERS = joints.

3. term of imprisonment = stretch; a trip = outing; ‘outside’ = OUTSTRETCHING = spreading out (outstretch {vt} = to spread out [Chambers D])

4. (cryptic) reserves = TA (Territorial Army [sorry Ari]); turn = at; rough out = draw; AT DAGGERS DRAWN = enemies

5. (subtractive anag) of “Papuan root cell” – “pollen”) = AUTOCARP = a fruit produced by self-fertilization (Chambers D)

Going for my cataract operation tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed that all will go well. When Helen had hers (about 10 years ago) she emerged with only one eye. However, she had a congenital defect in that eye. Just a bit of bad luck.
