Hi Beaky.

For the purposes of your quiz ... 'Elipton' = best ignored.
I'd wager a lot that almost no-one anywhere in the whole
world has heard of it/them (including most visitors to
the Edinburgh Castle Pub, S.F.).

However, the top secret 'Elipton device' is another matter
altogether and sounds much more interesting and scary!

Well JimC, we've all heard of Elipton now and are expecting their next appearance to be in Wembley Stadium!! I also found the "Elipton Device" on Google and it sounds pretty scary.

OK, so given the digression in the nature of the responses, is it not safe to assume that no-one knows the answer to the "cryptic" clue: 'an offence in the monarch's school'??! I notice that some helpful soles proffered words which contain the word "sin" - interestingly, without solving (or explaining) the clue. This is mere guesswork - anyone 'actually' know the answer?! Without - and you know who you are - gues"sin"g??!

alex - and I\'m thinking you know this - it\'s \"souls\" not \"soles\", in the context to which you\'re referring...

Thanks lingoking. Indeed I refer to helpful "souls" and not helpful "soles". Forgive me - the banality of previous comments has induced an intolerance. And such is the nature of his intolerance, that it has in turn (and sonmewhat paradoxically) elicited a linguistic blindness to the correct syntactical and grammatical forms. However, linguistic formalities aside, does anyone know the anwser to this clue........?

Hi Alex.

At the high risk of seeming banal...

Concerning your last post "...does anyone know the anwser
to this clue........?"
, my answer is: "Yes".
