Hi jazzy
If you read my post again, you'll see that I ALMOST did it in 10 minutes - the last (4 down) took about an hour for light to dawn!
23ac is a double definition, though the "dream up" bit is a bit lateral.

I've just had a thought.....
Is 23a a small door by any chance ?

Of course I did have what seems to be a major advantage - I knew what 10ac was!

Even looking at the images, It looks very complicated mechanism.
Just need a parsing on 5d Is the knight "N" and if so, where's the 3-wheeler? Not sure if my answer is correct (ends in Y)

Yes jazzy - sounds right. Not a word I had heard before, but the parsing is sound. You have a 3 letter "go" at the end - what is left if you remove the knight from the rest?

10ac works a bit like an escapement in a watch - it lets a cog rotate in only one direction unless it is lifted out of contact.

Ah, I was taking "shot" as an anagram indicator and not a "go". Finally got it, thanks. Off to do some housework to warm up.
