Hi AJT1. I've worked backwards from my 22D letters (which I believe to be correct) and delved into my French dictionary to no avail. I've spent hours on this clue! A hint please!

For Geirfa: To answer the clue you have the french personal pronoun, and "leaves" - a leaf can be a folio - f.
The word that is entered in the grid is the mate in this pairing.

....and, if it helps, the phrase is also a cockney rhyming slang coupling for someone who, like me, is hard of hearing.

Now you must have it.

Help, please, only 22ac to go. Have m?r?i?t which seems ok but no idea what the missing letters are. (Back number is retained by left wingers). A clue would be good. Tx
