For 17d think of the general term for a shopkeeper; "about to start" - re. The others you mention, I haven't got either, except for 10ac. This was mentioned earlier in this thread - a cow town. You want the name of a British town that contains a make of cars.

garble - 20dn is indeed half a US comedy team and 24ac a food pairing. Maybe your food pairing is wrong? 8dn is an anagram. In 22dn, not nice, but Nice.

Hope that helps.

you're asking for a lot of help! 10a has been hinted at above. sounds as if you've got 20d right. 24a [isi] a food coupling - tho not one I've ever tried! 17d the last 6 letter are a homonym of cutter. In 8d bizarre is an anagrind. 22d took me well over an hour and was last in - think of alternative meanings for nice.

11A has me stumped. It's presumably a proper noun. Yet, the clue seems to have too many elements in it. Any hints, please?

Thanks, teenieleek. Therefore the fifth letter is an M, and I had a I for a girl's name. Clearly not then.

I see what you had for 3dn pendragon but this one's American too. Penny now dropped for 12ac, spent ages loking for a word with m,s and z in it. Thanks to both you and AJT1. Only 2 little ones left to get now.
