All correct except;

5 Down - is incorrect
23 Down - first letter is incorrect

Apart from that, Bloody good effort my friend

Many thanks for all the trouble you've taken, Les! 23d is obvious, yho' I still don't see part of the cryptic reference; for 5d I can see 4 possibilities, but being an absolute ignoramus on that subject & despite googling efforts I shall wait in the dark till it's revealed! Once again, I found it much more baffling this time,but thanks to everybody involved for the home-made entertainment! A couple of hours ago I seriously thought I'd never make it at all!

Well, I'm as finished as I can be I think - some great clues, I confess Les that I don't see the wordplay for 27a or 39a even though I know what the answers must be - looking forward to the "apres puzzle".
