The clue was perfectly fair and reasonable. The weakness, for little old disenfranchised me, was that "threadbare" doesn't really mean "used"; "overused" is nearer the mark.

Maybe, but from Chambers:

threadĖˆbare - adjective
1. Worn to the bare thread
2. Having the nap worn off
3. Poor or meagre
4. Shabby
5. Hackneyed
6. Used until its novelty or interest is gone

I would say it's good.

"Used until its novelty or interest is gone" certainly isn't just "used", is it?

You've got to wonder at someone going to the trouble of emailing about such a clue though. It smacks of poison pen letters.

Exactly. Which is why we should be careful about posting email addresses. Use a throw-away.

Anyway, it's a moot point. jws won.
Congratulations.

The peer-review is a great idea. Lots of good clues.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work well with my time zone.

Hi there
I think I was alone in using "worse for wear" as synonym for threadbare. Was rather pleased.
Its nice to begin this week not having cluemaster responsibilities. (Are there any common words with 5 'i's)
Have a good week.
Have posted a HELP elsewhere for the JUMBO CRYPTIC

Hi Thea, is it just one word? Would "william III" be valid?
