How about "crazy gig" as clue?(buggy US =crazy,gig syn. for vehicle)---will look for s'thing even shorter,though!

Just in case it's the number of letters that counts,I'll bid "mad gig" instead!

RADAR is brilliant - I can see it as meaning "spies" but can't see the reference to "foes"...?

Forget previous post! "spies foes" obviously is RADAR.

Well done GK and for Bunter too. I'd previously looked it up at Chambers online and it wasn't there but as you say, it's in the Dictionary!

Exactly! Shall put him on my wall!
