A bit harder than usual and, dare I say it, yesterday's Prize.

I wasn't overly keen on 8d which is a phrase I have never once heard used, at least as written and thought 7d was a tad ambiguous in respect of the final letter - other than that, no complaints.

COD - I liked 17a and 18d and the smooth surface of 1a, but this week's winner is 12d for obvious reasons 😉

Thanks to Everyman for a most enjoyable puzzle.

Stay safe:-)

Hi Brendan. Yes definitely a bit tougher. I've been stuck on the NE for some time now which is unusual for an Everyman. Does the vision part of the clue refer to the second word in 8d? Struggling to think what that clue is trying to say.

Hi Rocky,

8d - 6 letter "summer garb" + 5 letter "vision" minus first letter/"topless" - as for the definition, I think it's "vision not perfect" but I've never heard the term used without an 'ed' at the end.

Yes I agree with you. That is not a very good clue or answer. But thanks for the hint.

All finished. Liked 17a and 12d also.

Good fun I thought. But is there not ambiguity in the spelling of 9a (third letter from end)?

Rhyming pair, found it tricky especially NE corner. Not totally confident about some of my entries. Not yet got 25a, always find the short words awkward. 12d for my COD.

Pedant’s Corner: It wasn’t actually 19a who did the deed, she made someone else do it.

I also found that difficult but fun and loved 12d.

But maybe someone could help me out of my misery: while I have an answer and partial parse for 24a, I think the middle phrase of the clue should yield the central letters of my answer but am completely stuck on how.

All done and thoroughly enjoyed - but I also seem to have an additional 2 letters in 24 that I can’t work out where they come from in the clue!

I resolved the ambiguity of last letter of 7d with reference to its rhyming pair at 14d.
